I notice that since the work was done bulding the path from cranfleet towards attenborough, there's a locked gate at the very end of meadow lane, next to the NAA gate.

Are there any plans to give LEVAS members access to this gate and the ability to take cars upto the pegs at the end of our stretch?

This would certainly aid security and mean not having to carry a load of gear for what seems like miles Wink

I was told by someone in the know that the field you are talking about is earmarked for gravel extraction. If you follow the NAA track past the windsurfers containers the gravel contracters have already laid some groundworks for some sort of building.

If you want to use the lower car park I'd recommend joining NAA for a season, they've had the same key for many years now. Plus the NAA below LEVAS is a good bit of water!

Ahh, i thought that building was going to be something to do with the windsurfing club, but maybe not.

Thats a real shame as the parking situation at thrumpton in the past has put me off fishing it and i'd rather not join NAA just for a car park key, although for £36 they do have a lot of water... (really can't justify another ticket Wink

)

I walk the dogs by the river/pits most evenings so i'll keep an eye out for further developments...

I could be wrong about the building work, the person who told me is a NAA committee member and as an access holder they get prior warning of any changes. I just hope the access track remains, it's a godsend for the NAA water.

BTW - I see you are in the PAC, have you pike fished Thrumpton? I've done well on that stretch nothing big but plenty of small fish. Also hearing rumours of zander, not seen one yet but I'd love to catch one!

Interesting to see what happens to the field, maybe the club could register an interest for the fishing rights once the gravel extraction is done.

I've not fished Thrumpton for pike although once the colder weather sets in, i shall be pretty much pike only until march so i'm sure i'll get round to it this year... too much water not enough time.

Zander in the trent eh? never had one myself and would love to catch them, without having to drag myself to the severn or to norfolk etc. lets hope if there are any in the trent they manage to thrive.

Have a look at Archie Braddocks website (www.braddocksbaits.co.uk), there are a few mentions of Trent zander.

Certainly plenty of bait fish for them I've had some great days on the stick at Thrumpton.

Access:
My understanding is that the NAA access at Meadow Lane is being (or has been) withdrawn due to pending gravel works and linked Health & Safety, which means the only access is from the end of Meadow Lane and along the footpath. If anyone has further information please let me know.

New Gravel Pit:
I understand that LEVAS has been involved in negotiations regarding potential fishing on waters created on the land backing our river fisheries for a number of years. There has been mention of discussion relating to secure car parking, but both issues will not be resolved until any gravel extraction is complete.

Zander:
Three years ago I caught three zander and lost one, in four successive casts, on worm, when breaming at Trent Lock (the next stretch above ours), so I know there are Zander in the Trent. They weighed around three pounds each. I have had no reports since.

If members have concerns regarding secure parking on our Long Eaton stretch of the Trent, and would be interested in something being provided, please write to (or e-mail) our General Secretary, David Kent, who is keen to gauge the level of concern and interest. This would support future negotiations, especially if there is lots of support.
