Hi,
I've got a friend from the Northwest coming down to do some river fishing for a few days next week. We're due for some rain over the next couple of days - I was wondering if the Colwick section below the sluice is a good bet if we get it. I haven't fished there, so I'd be grateful for any information. Are the banks as dangerous as the description suggests? Can you go through the barrier on the access road at any time? I'd planned to take him barbelling on the smaller rivers, but I think I need a fall-back plan too. Any ideas gratefully received.

Are you Kevin from Wollaton? I spoke to you down the Soar last year.

The Colwick stretch is fairly good for barbel. The first few pegs below the sluice (not LEVAS water) can be treacherous. There are certainly fish in those pegs but it can be very snaggy indeed. The first few pegs on the LEVAS water used to be good for barbel and chub (quite a few carp too!) , I guess they are still there.

When i used to fish it (about 5 years back)there was no night barrier at Colwick park so you could come and go as you please. I'm told that the only way past the night barrier these days is to join the trout/carp syndicate at Colwick. The ticket office at Colwick park will have a definitive answer.

Tight lines

Scott
