With current clear water there is opportunity to walk along the canal towpath and 'fish spot'. It is interesting to note that there are very high numbers of small chub and rudd (fish in the 10 to 15 cm size range, or 4 to 6 inch in old money) showing, and that these appear to far out number other species.

This is likely as rudd and chub are more visable and spend more time near the suface that the roach, bream and perch that make up the bulk of catches, but even so, as chub have been on the decline for several years, perhaps we could see an upsurge in numbers in coming years.

My observations have shown a good balance of small fish of all species and if these survive the future could be very bright.

All looks very good for the Division 1 NFA National Championships in August 2006.
