| New/repaired Lock Gates were fitted at Trent Lock at the end of November 2005, and at present water leakage appears to have ceased. This means that the back pumping from the Trent has been halted. I am hopeful this will lead to an improvement in the water quality in the canal - but we will need to wait and see. A return of some colour and a reduction in weed growth would be good! |

| There has been very little back pumping and the new lock gates are waterproof. This has improved canal flows (right to left) and the water has held some colour over the last three months - sport seems to have improved. |

The new gates remain watertight and water losses from leaks is eliminated. However, throughout the summer there has still been some (although reduced) back pumping at Trent Lock as there is insufficient water coming through from higher reaches to maintain levels after lock usage.
Although this had led to clear water, there remains a tinge of colour, and currently sport is of the highest level. |
