COMMITTEE CUP MATCH; BLAKE HALL; 24 August 2010

The annual Committee Cup match was fished by committee members, Bailiffs and 'friends of the club' on Capricious Lake at Blake Hall in very windy condiditions which included several rain showers.

The condiditions favoured feeder fishing, and John Adamson (peg 28) took full advantage of the conditions landing 28 carp by fishing tight to an island with method feeder baited with meat to record his second win of the week.

Dave Cotterill (peg 34) caught his 31 lb 8 oz of carp on pole and paste to push Mick Lager (peg 9) into third place with 30 lb 12 oz taken by alternating pole and chopped worm with method feeder.  Paul Richardson (peg 36) was fourth with 21 lb 2 oz, Ivan Carrier fifth (peg 5) with 20 lb 14 oz.

Winning Pair of John Adamson and Aubrey Wainwright weighed 94 lb 6 oz, runners up Mick Lager and Bow Overmass totalling 43 lb.

Match 8: TAPPER'S SHIELD; LILY POOL, WOODHOUSE FARM; 22 AUGUST 2010

Match 8 of the 2010 LEVAS Championship Series was fished for the Tapper's Shield on the Lily Pool at Woodhouse Farm, Longford.  As a joint match with Soldiers and Sailors AC there was again an excellent attendance.

Top weight was taken by John Adamson with a 22 carp catch weighing 36 lbs.  Fishing peg 18, John caught on a tiny pellet feeder fished tight to the island, and caught fish in runs of one or two throughout the match to consolidate his lead in this season's Championship.

In contrast, second placed Paul Skinner (peg 6) caught most of his 25 lb 7 oz of carp in the latter stages by fishing pole tight to the island on pellet, and included a better sample of fish, as did Rob Henrick (peg 2) who took third place with 21 lb 4 oz to move into fourth place in the Championship.

Neil Stevenson (peg 17) was fourth with 21 lb, Carl Henrick (peg 12) fifth with 20 lb 15 oz to keep in Championship contention , Dave Lewis sixth (peg 10) with 17 lb 8 oz.

After 8 matches the Championship 'Leader-board' is: John Adamson 142 points; Carl Henrick 116; Malc Munn 100; Rob Henrick 93; Steve Wilcock & Les Overmass both with 90; Mick Lager 80; Dave Kent 78; Neil Stevenson 69; Dave Cotterill 65.

Championship Match 9 (for the Centenary Cup) will be on 5 September on the Reptiles and Paddock at Dynamite Baits Makins Fishery.  Book in with Dave Kent.

BANK CLOSURE - COLWICK (RIVER TRENT)

Flood alleviation sceme work on the bank of the River Trent at Colwick is about to start, so for safety reasons, we have closed the stretch for angling until further notice.

If the weather remains kind, the work, which will include enhanced peg safety and access, should be completed by the end of the year.

Match 7: RICHARDSON CUP, THE AVONS (DYNAMITE BAITS MAKINS) 8 August 2010

Championship Match 7, for the Richardson Cup, was fished on Inner and Outer Avon at Dynamite Baits Makins in hot and still conditions, when for most the fish failed to co-operate.

Top weight (exception and a clear winner) was Jake Hemmings on peg 10 with 66 lb 6oz, some taken fishing pole with paste across to the island early on, but mostly taken on feeder fished back towards the corner to his right.  Jake whose carp were mainly in the 2 to 4 lb size bracket but with one fish around 7 lb, caught steadily throughout.

Second place fell to Les (Bow) Overmass on peg 22 with 32 lb taken fishing pole to the island on meat and corn, with Dave Kent (bridge peg 25) filling third place with 20 lb 14oz taken mainly from 'the track' on cat meat.

Fourth in the match and top weight on the Inner Avon was Paul Richardson (Inner Avon 2) with 18 lb 10oz, the next two places being John Adamson (Avon 15) with 16 lb 6 oz and Malc Munn (Inner Avon 5) with 16 lb 4 oz.

Match 6: MANSFIELD CUP @ HIGHAM FISHERY (1 August 2010)

Match 6, for the Mansfield Cup, was held at Higham Lane Fishery near Hinckley, and was again well attended.

Although fish could be seen all over the lake, they did not appear keen to feed and sport was generally slow, with the right bank of the lake (at the car park end) generally producing the better weights (four of the top five).

Top weight was Derby rod Carl Henrick (peg 21) with 56 lb 4 oz of carp.  After a quiet first hour Carl caught at 6m on paste and 16m on pellet to the island, and included three big fish in his catch.

Runner up Dave Cotterill (Long Eaton) on peg 22 caught on pellet waggler early on and then on long pole and pellet in the latter stages for his 47 lb 12 oz carp catch, John Adamson (Long Eaton) taking third with an 11 carp method feeder catch of 45 lb 14 oz from peg 7.

The next three were Les (Bow)Overmass with 36 lb 11 oz from peg 24, Neil Stevenson with 34 lb 2 oz from peg 25, and Adam Chester with 34 lb from peg 3.

Match 5: R S KIRKLAND MEMORIAL TROPHY; TUNNEL BARN (25 July 2010)

Match 5 was for the R S Kirkland Memorial Trophy and was also the 2010 Annual Outing match.

The selected venue was the Extension Pool at the popular Tunnel Barn Fishery, Shrewley in Warwickshire, and as usual the event was very well attended.

Excepting the winning weight, the match to be very close for the minor places, with fish being caught all round the lake.

Top weight of 158 lb 8 oz was taken by John Adamson.  Fishing peg 28, John alternated between long pole (baiting with paste) at 13m and method feeder (baited with meat) fished tight to the island, and managed to keep bites coming throughout.  He ended with 62 carp which varied in size from 12 oz to 6 lb for a clear win.

Runner up Dave Cotterill (peg 22) fished long pole and pellet for his 62 lb 15 oz, Carl Henrick (peg 21) was third with 51 lb 4 oz, and Matt Colegate fourth with 49 lb 10 oz from peg 27.

Section winners were: Pete (Budgie) Bywater (peg 9) with 47 lb 8 oz; Steve Wilcock (peg 13) with 47 lb 15 oz; Don Radmore (peg 24) with 36 lb 15 oz; Les (Bow) Overmass (peg 33) with 48 lb 12 oz.
