Junior Championships 5 -(Grange Pond) & 6 (Dynamite Makins)

Junior Match 5, GRANGE POND, 5 July 2009:

Carp and tench failed to show in Junior match 5 on Grange Pond, and roach catches dominated with 13 year old George Rigby taking top weight with 6 lb 12 oz.  Fishing hemp and maggots from peg 13, George included a pike of 2 lb 1 oz in his catch.

Runner up Anthony Hanstock (age 14) took second place with 2 lb 10 oz from peg 12, Curtis Hodges taking third with 1 lb 10 oz from peg 7.  Top weight in the under 13 age group was 11 year olf Ashley Collinson with 6 oz from peg 10.

Junior Match 6, LAKE 5 DYNAMITE MAKINS, 25 July 2009:

Match 6 on Lake 5 at Dynamite Makins saw a reasonable turnout in good weather, although for some, sport was difficult.

Top weight fell to 9 year old Loughborough angler Adam Brailsford (peg 51) who fished with a feeder and baited with corn and pellets.  He landed a carp and bream weight of 22 lb 10 oz. In close second place was 14 year old Jake Hemmings (peg 45) with 19 lb 4 oz taken on pellet bait and alternating between feeder and pellet waggler.

Other leading weights were: Greg Harlow (age 11) with 11 lb 7 oz from peg 3; Ashley Collinson (age 11) with 7 lb 4 oz from peg 43; George Rigby (age 13) with 5 lb 12 oz from peg 1; Anthony Hanstock with 5 lb 2 oz from peg 5.

Match 7 is on Sunday 2 August on the Erewash Canal, draw at 10am, fish 11am to 3pm. 

Match 3: VICTORIA CUP, EREWASH CANAL; 15 July 2009

Match 3 (originally scheduled for 1 July) was fished on Wednesday 15th July in the evening, from 6pm to 9pm, and was filmed by the BBC who are producing a programme about the Erewash Canal.

Star of the show was 14 year old Jake Hemmings, who made it two senior championship wins on the trot.  Jake, fishing peg 34, fished with chopped worm down the track to catch mainly perch plus a few roach for 7 lb 4 oz, an excellent canal weight in a three hour match.

Second placed Pete (Budgie) Bywater (peg 36) had little to show for his efforts until the last 30 minutes when a switch to chopped worm presented against a bar bank bush produced 4 tench and a perch to lift his weight to 6 lb 14 oz.

Dave Clarke (peg 26) was third with 6 lb 6 oz, Dave Kent (peg 37) was fourth with 6 lb 4 oz, whilst another junior member, 13 year old George Rigby took fifth place with 5 lb 6 oz.

Match 4: H MOUNTNEY MEMORIAL, ROBINWOOD; 12 July 2009

Match 4, for the H Mountney Memorial Trophy (match 3 on Erewash Canal has been put back to Wednesday 15 March) was fished at Robinwood Fishery on the Middle Pool, and produced a mixed result.

14 year old Jake Hemmings took full advantage of end peg (21), and by fishing up in the water in open water and along the bank past peg 22, he caught carp throughout the match to finish clear winner with 72 lb 8 oz.

In contrast, Malc Munn (peg 20) fished open water with chopped worm and caster to catch ide and roach all match, and his second placed weight, a magnificent 51 lb 8 oz did not contain a single carp.

This edged John Adamson (peg 9) into third place by 4 oz.  His 14 fish all carp catch was taken on paste fished at 11m.

Carl Henricks took fourth place (peg 8) with 27 lb of carp, ide, roach and rudd taken up in the water on pellet and caster, Paul Richardson filling fifth spot with 18 lb 12 oz of Silvers from peg 4.

Match 5, the Annual Outing for the RS Kirkland Memorial Trophy, will be on the Arena Pool at Cudmore on 26 July (the weekend after the televised 'Fish-O-Mania' on the same venue).  The day will involve breakfast and an after match meal - book a place with Dave Kent ASAP.

JUNIOR MATCH 4: ROBINWOOD (27 June 2009)

The fourth match of the Junior campaign was fished on 27th June on the Middle Pool at Robinwood Fishery near Derby.

There was a very close battle for top place between 15 year old Oli Crooks on peg 2 and 14 year old Jake Hemmings (peg 4), who both fished pole and baited with pellets and paste.  At the final whistle Oli came out on top with 40 lb, edging out Jake who finished with 38 lb 5 oz.  13 year old George Rigby took third place with 14 lb 9 oz from peg 6.

Top weight in the under 13 group was 11 year old Greg Harlow with 5 lb 10 oz from peg 11.

Next match is on Lake 5 (Phase 1) at Dynamite Baits Makins on Saturday 25th July.  Names to Martin Oakes please (0115 8492737)

Match 2: JOHN LEWIS MEMORIAL (28 June 2009)

Match 2 was fished in blazing hot conditions at the Woodhouse Farm Fishery, Longford, on the Canal Pool and attached lake.

Dave Mayo continued his scintillating recent form by making excellent use of peg 1, using pole presented pellet and paste to tempt 47 lb 10 oz of carp to 7 lb to win.

Second placed Paul Richardson (peg 25) alternated between method feeder and pole and paste for is 41 lb 8 oz carp catch (including fish to 6 lb), with Long Eaton tackle dealer Aubrey Wainwright (peg 24) taking third place with 33 lb 4 oz of paste caught carp, tempted over caster feed.

Keith White took fourth with 23 lb 6 oz from peg 16, Ivan Carrier fifth with 18 lb 4 oz from peg 2, Jamie Adcock sixth with 16 lb from peg 11.

EVENING MATCH DATE CHANGE
Members please note that the evening match scheduled for Wednesday 1 July on the Erewash Canal will now be held on Wednesday 15th July.  Names to Dave Kent please.
JUNIOR MATCH 3: SPRINGWOOD FISHERY, 13 June 2009

Match 3 of the Junior Section for the 2009 Championships saw the young anglers gathered at Springwood (Melbourne) on the Top Pool.

14 year old Anthony Hanstock ran out a clear winner with 16 lb 12 oz of carp from peg 9, all taken on pellet presented on the pole. 

Only ounces split the next three anglers. 15 year old Oli Crooks filled second spot with 5 lb 14 oz from peg 5, edging out  14 year old Anthony Hanstock who had 5 lb 9 oz from peg 1. 

11 year old Loughborough angler Adam Brailsford, with 5 lb 8 oz from peg 14 filled fourth spot overall and also took top in the under 13 group.  He caught carp by alternating between pole and feeder, using pellets and groundbait.  9 year old Callum Hemmings took second in the younger age group with 3 lb 3 oz from peg 3, followed by 11 year old Connor Hemmings, whose 2 lb 12 oz came from peg 11.
