J Lewis Memorial Trophy Match - 2 July 2006 | Print |

The club's third championship match of the season (the J Lewis Memorial Trophy at Boddington Reservior) was another 'sell out', with all the 25 pegs booked by the club being quickly taken.  The club was allocated the normally less favoured pegs, numbers 1 to 25 on the road bank.  However, as temperatures reaching 30C in the hot sun, as that bank faced a breeze blowing down the reservoir, on the day members probably had the most comfortable area on the fishery.

The very low numbers was the pre-match favoured area and the anglers on pegs 1 and 2, Brian Leafe and Ron Stacey, went fish for fish all match for top honours, the advantage swinging one way and then the other throughout..   Both fished method feeder baited with sweet corn, and on the final whistle it was Ron Stacey, with a magnificent 171 lb weight against Brian's 160 lb, who triumphed.  On a day when most anglers lost a number of fish, Ron's only losing two contributed greatly to his success.

Third place fell to John Adamson from peg 20, with 144 lb 10 oz, in spite of dropping a carp back in at the weigh in before it had been weighed.  John employed method feeder tactics and baited with red maggot.

Fourth place went to Steve James (peg 13) with 132 lb, a magnificent effort to beat the current 'Makins' match weight record holder Mark Saunders, who had 114 lb 14 oz from peg 14.  Ray Ketcher was sixth with 97 lb from peg 4.
