Although the turnout for the Victoria Cup match on the Erewash canal was disappointing, the weather proved very pleasant and sport was excellent.

In spite of promised thunderstorms and heavy rain, although it was dull and humid it thankfully remained dry throughout the match, held along the middle part of the Tamworth Road, either side of the new foot bridge.

John Adamson (peg 32) and Alan Wright (peg 30) went fish for fish throughout the 3 hour match.  John fished his favoured approach of bread punch for the first 2 1/2 hours and then bronze maggot over ground bait, and Alan fishing with squatts throughout, and it was a bonus 12 oz perch taken by John 15 minutes from the end that gave him the advantage and a win with 4 lb 12 oz 8 dm, to Alan's 4 lb 4 oz.

Third place was taken by Dave Mayo with 3 lb 9 oz, fourth Dave Kent with 3 lb 4 oz, and fifth Ivan Carrier 2 lb 9 oz.
