The W CAMM Cup match was also a joint match with Soldiers and Sailors AC. As 36 anglers had booked in, the match was expanded to include Severn Lake as well as Avon Lake on Phase 3 of the Preston Innovations BW Makins Fishery, and although both fished quite well, it was the anglers fishing Avon who dominated the match, taking the top five places.
Martin Pacey, on Avon peg 12 (furthest away from the car park) was pegged near the airator (used overnight), and by switching between bread and pellet, using pole over pellet feed, he caught carp between 5 and 9 lb throughout the five hours, to finish with an excellent 92 lb 4 oz.
On the opposite side of the lake (backing the car park on Avon peg 25) Jamie Adcock used similar tactics to take a similar stamp of fish for 78 lb 12 oz and second place, edging out Paul Marriott (Avon peg 15) who fished pellet up in the water for 71 lb 4 oz.
John Adamson and Terry Cockburn battled it out for fourth and fifthplace, both catching a smaller sample of fish (2 to 5 lb) from Avon pegs 3 and 6 respectively, with John's 60 lb 3 oz eventually edging out Terry's 59 lb 9 oz. John caught on bread early on and later on red maggots, whilst Terry took the bulk of his catch on pellet.
The club's next Championship match, for the R S Kirkland Memorial Trophy, is also the Annual Outing. It will be fished at the Woodland View complex on Barley and Hay lakes. The day will include a pre-match breakfast and after match meal at the Woodland View complex's restaurant. Members should book their place with club Secretary Dave Kent as soon as possible to ensure a place.
