On reflection this match is one that could be remembered for the wrong reasons, as the day had a poor start (the journey), a good middle (the breakfast), and a mediocre end (the fishing).

The combination of minor road repairs on Keystone Mile, the aftermath of a big fire at Castle Donnington, road works on junction 21, a jack-knifed lorry blocking the M1 below juntion 19 and another accident on the A14 turned a comfortable 40 minute drive into a 2 hour nightmare before we reached (by a range of alternate routes) J1 off the A14 and the 'pit-stop road side cafe', where all enjoyed a superb breakfast.

A further mile along country roads and dirt tracks brought us to the bank of Naseby Reservoir, and as levels were so low we drove onto the dry bed of the 'res' and parked in an area normally covered by a metre of water.

Pegs were well spaced out, and after hearing from the bailiff of great recent catches (including 20 lb plus carp) we commenced fishing an hour late with great anticipation.

2 biteless hours later (with no signs of fish, not even rising) it became obvious that big catches were unlikely, when Dave Mayo spoilt a close match by landing a carp.  Between then and the end, out of the blue, the odd fish was taken by the odd angler (in some cases the very odd angler), and although weights were low the final result was very close.

Paul Richardson (peg 14) took three carp on boilies to win with 26 lb 8 oz, Dave Mayo (guest) also landed three, from peg 11 on meat for 24 lb 12 oz and second, closely followed by John Adamson (peg 1, another flier!) with three in the last 90 minutes on method feeder and dead red maggot for 23 lb 8 oz and third.

Ivan Carrier (guest) was fourth with two for 16 lb from peg 9, with club President John Adams (peg 2) taking fifth place from peg 2.

As usual, a pairs pool was included in the day's procedures, with the winning (drawn at random) pair, with 38 lb 8 oz,  being Paul Richardson (Membership Secretary) and (President) John Adams.
