Success to Mark (Junior) in Season's Final Grange Monday Matches | Print |

The last two Monday evening matches at Grange Pond were both won by 14 year old Mark Lowe.

On the 14 August match, Mark landed 6 carp and 3 skimmer bream from peg 11 for 27 lb 4 oz, just enough to put him clear of Jim Meakin (peg 20) who took 6 carp and a tench on pole feeder for 26 lb.  Keith Barlow was third from peg 22 with 3 carp and a skimmer bream on feeder for 14 lb 4 oz for third place.

On 21 August, young Mark Lowe ended the series with an excellent weight of 40 lb 8 oz from peg 13.  His catch, all taken on feeder tactics, consisted of 7 carp.  Second place went to Don Radmore (Peg 9) who float fished meat and pellet for a five carp haul totalling 30 lb 8 oz, which included a magnificent fish of 14 lb 8 oz, the biggest fish weighed in a match from Grange Pond to date.  Third weight went to June Lowe (peg 11) whose single carp weighed 8 lb.

Due to poor the weather leading to dark evenings, and the impending Bank Holiday, the matches were ended a week earlier than planned.  However, everyone agreed that the series had proven extremely successful.  The matches pulled in nearly as many spectators as competitors, and all hope that the 16 Monday Evening match format, from May to August, will be repeated next season.

Thanks to Paul Richardson for organising and running the matches.
