Mark Saunders Takes Centenary Cup at Drayton (3/9/06) | Print |

Sunday 3 September 2006 saw the Centenary  Cup contested by another 'sell out'.  Most competitors enjoyed an excellent day's sport, although the pegs at either end failed to produce much, with most of the top weights being taken by the pegs around the point.

With Drayton Reservoir several feet below normal level, pegs 84 to 103 (either side of point)  needed to be accessed from below the platforms, and in view of the shallow margins most anglers opted to position themselves in the water, enabling keepnets to be pegged out, in spite of the very strong wind blowing from left to right for the top pegs (103 back to 94).

Mark Saunders drew peg 93 right on the point, and caught steadily throughout the match on method feeder fished boilies, to end with around 20 carp to 158 lb and a clear win.

The next four weights were split by only 7 lbs, and Mark's travelling companion Roy Draxner (peg 89), using similar tactics to the winner, took 15 fish for 136 lb 8 oz and second place, just edging out Simon Harper (peg 91) who landed 14 carp for 135 lb.

John Adamson (peg 98) took 15 fish (method and red maggot) for 131 lb and fourth place, with the in form Nigel Brailsford taking 129 lb 8 oz from peg 92.
