Good Richardson Cup Match at BWB Makins | Print |

The club's second visit this year to Phase 3 at the Preston Innovations BWB Makins Fishery, once again proved to be an excellent match, even though the match was fished on the lesser favoured Thames and Derwent Lakes.

Fishing with sweet corn on the pole at ranges varying from 6 to 12m, Club General Secretary Dave Kent kept the fish interested throughout the match to catch mainly carp plus a few bream for a fine total of 54 lb 8 oz  from Thames peg 18 for a narrow victory over Brian Leafe, who  managed 53 lb 4 oz of carp from Thames peg 12 using similar tactics.

In contrast, Simon Harper (Thames peg 8) caught a few chub and carp early in the match on corn tight to the far bank before switching to surface fished bread in the latter stages to take a string of good carp for third with 48 lb 8 oz.

The next two weights came from Derwent, where Ivan Carrier (peg 30) ended with 42 lb 12 oz to edge out Anthony White's (peg 24) 41 lb 12 oz.

Sixth weight of 38 lb was taken by Nigel Brailsford (Thames 20).
