Richardson Takes Mansfield Cup in Poor Grange Match (22 Oct 06) | Print |

Even though in the lead up to the event sport on the venue had been reasonable, the Mansfield Cup match (also round 13 of the Club Senior Championship) proved an unlucky affair for most of the anglers as most struggled for bites in heavy rain at Grange Pond .  However, all competitors managed to catch something, even though for some it was only a single small fish as the excellent carp stocks failed to co-operate.

Making excellent use of island peg 22, top angler on the day was Paul Richardson converted four bites on red maggot (presented on the method feeder) into four carp landed, for 16 lb 12 oz final weight and another very comfortable win on the venue.

Second place was taken by debutant Trevor Holliday from peg 20 with 5 lbs.  Trevor landed  a carp taken close in on the pole baited with sweet corn about 30 minutes from final whistle, putting him well clear of his travelling companion Andrew Lister, who fished throughout for roach from peg 11 and put 2 lb 11 oz on the scales for third place.  This was enough to edge out Ron Stacey (peg 27), who included a bream on 'the method' in his 2 lb 6 oz, and John Adamson (peg 4) who had an all roach 2 lb 4 oz taken on caster.

Match 14 in the Championship (for the Phil Read Memorial Trophy) will be at Boddington Reservoir on 5 November.  With pegs on the venue limited, members should book in promptly with the Match Secretary (Dave Kent) to ensure a place.
