In spite of much colder weather and very clear water in the club stretch of the Erewash Canal, sport was quite good for all competitors in the Fletcher Cup and Christmas Fayre match, with only two anglers failing to weigh in.
Top weight was taken by double National Champion Alan Wright from peg 84 (between the railway bridges). Alan fished bloodworm and joker on the pole to take roach to 4 oz, and switched to chopped worm for a few perch to total 5 lb 8 oz. This was just enough to put him 8 oz clear of Dave Mayo, who (pole) fished punched bread throughout from peg 61 to take raoch to 4 oz for his 5 lb bag.
Weights dropped after this down to 3 lb 4 oz, taken by Paul Richardson, who took 6 perch and 2 roach on chopped worm for third place from peg 75, just enough to edge out dead heating fourth placed anglers, Neil Stephenson, whose 3 lb 3 oz from peg 68 consisted of roach to 6 oz all taken on bloodworm, and Andy Coppin (peg 94) who also had 3 lb 3 oz of roach to 6 oz, all taken on punched bread.
