After an very close 5 a side match on the Erewash Canal at the Trent Lock end, LEVAS were defeated by a single point (8 points to 7) by Phoenix Herons, and go out in the first round.
In spite of the heavy rain the canal fished quite well, and although the bulk of catches comprised of small roach, skimmer bream, chub and rudd, several good perch were landed as well as a tench.
Top weight came from peg 119, where Kelvin Redwood (Phoenix) caught small fish steadily throughout the match. This, together with some bonus perch, put him well clear of the field with 8 lb 5 oz. Second spot also fell to a Phoenix angler, Mark Salton (peg 123) catching small roach, rudd and skimmers and two bonus perch for a 5 lb 12 oz 8 dm catch.
Two LEVAS anglers tied for third place, Paul Richardson on peg 116 and John Adamson on peg 122, each with 5 lb 3 oz 8 dm. Another Phoenix angler filled fifth spot, Ray Redwood (peg 113) with 4 lb 14 oz.
LEVAS anglers filled the next three positions, John James (peg 114) 3 lb 14 oz 8 dm (including a tench), Mick Lager (peg 112) with 3 lb 1 oz 8 dm, and Anthony White (peg 120) with 2 lb 8 oz.
We will now have to wait for next year to see if we can improve on this. Our best wishes to Phoenix in the next round.
