After a dull day the weather brightened late afternoon and the dozen anglers arriving at Grange for match 3 were bathed in sunshine and enjoyed 18.5C temperature for the first hour. Added to this, the cuckoo was 'cucking', and you could hear a spitfire going through its paces to the west. It could not be more pleasant a place to sit and relax.
As the match progressed the temperature fell (to 7C at the end), and unfortunately the fish didn't seem to like the bright evening and temperature drop, making sport hard, and the only thing the many spectators probably learned was don't expect to catch much when it is bright, sunny and clear.
Top weight fell to Mark Saunders (peg 4) who fished feeder throughout for 2 carp, 2 skimmers and a tench for 16 lb 12 oz.
In contrast, on peg 22 Karl Barlow fished a 'pole feeder' for 1 carp, 3 skimmers and 3 roach for 14 lb and second place, well clear of Mark Lowe's 4 skimmer catch, all falling to feeder on peg 23.
