The fourth round of the Club Championships (also for the H Mountney Cup) was held on the Match Lake at RIDDINGS, and again proved a very well attended event. In spite of the poor weather forecast it remained dry except for a few short sharp showers throughout the day, and generally sport was extremely good.
Top weight was taken by Jamie Adcock with 57 lb 8 oz from end peg 35. With excellent margins and an island end to fish to, after a quick unproductive spell on method feeder, Jamie switched to pellet waggler over loose fed meat, and for the next hour caught small carp steadily. Once these stopped feeding, except for a couple more carp from the margins he caught very little. Fortunately he had enough.
In complete contrast, Gary Humphries pole fished the margins on peg 5 with cat meat all day, feeding small quantities of cat meat 'slop'. In spite of losing a carp at the net that he estimated to weigh in excess of 20 lbs, the few big fish he did land gave him a total of 52 lb 8 oz and second spot.
In third place, Nigel Brailsford lost a series of big fish in his snaggy peg 27, but landed enough, using pole fished along the margins baited alternately with cat meat and corn, for third place with 49 lb 4 oz, edging out Dave Cotterill (peg 11), who pole fished corn shallow at 13m for 45 lb 8 oz, also including some big carp.
Paul Richardson's fifth place with 34 lb 4 oz further increased his lead at the top of the Club Championships at this early stage of the season.
