As club water Grange Pond remains flooded, Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society switched the A Fletcher Memorial Cup match (also round 6 of the 2007 Club Championships) to Kilburn Lake, a venue only open to fishing for the first time this weekend. In spite of the insessant heavy rain all 19 competitors enjoyed some superb sport, with 1,147 lb of fish (carp averaging about 3 to the pound) being weighed in.
Top weight was taken by current Championship leader Paul Richardson with 111 lb 6 oz. Paul (on peg 11) fished at 6m with corn as bait to catch small carp steadily throughout the 5 hours. This was just enough to beat Stef Fedyszyn on the next peg (10) who fished 4 maggots on a size 12 hook at similar range for his 103 lb 8 oz catch.
The next three were all quite close. Tony Billington (peg 13) with 89 lb 4 oz on corn, Dave Mayo (peg 22) with a paste caught 84 lb 8 oz, and John Adamson (peg 16) with 82 lb 8 oz on pellet.
