MATCH 4: VICTORIA CUP, EREWASH CANAL (9 July 2008) | Print |

Match 4 (for the Victoria Cup) was fished on the Wednesday evening (6.15 pm to 9.15 pm) on the Tamworth Road of the Erewash Canal in a horrible gusty wind and heavy rain.  In spite of the inclemant weather, however, plenty of fish were caught.

Fishing peg 33 with big maggots, Dave Kent caught over 2 lb 8 oz of roach and bream during the first half of the match presenting his bait at the bottom of the far ledge.  He then switched to worm bait presented against a bush near to the far side to catch a tench weighing around 2 lb, 4 good perch and losing 3 other big fish.  His total weight of 7 lb 9 oz gave him an easy win.

Canal specialists John James (peg 30) and Alan Wright (peg 32) were fish for fish throughout the match, both catching small roach and skimmer bream.  Both weighed catches of exactly 4 lb 7 oz 8 dm, and had to share second place, just edging out Anthony White, who pushed them close with 4 lb 5 oz of squat caught small fish from peg 26 for fourth place.
