Roach - Rutilus Rutilus

The roach is often mistake for a rudd by the inexperienced angler. Both have large scales and a greenish backs, but the flanks of the roach are silvery whereas the rud has a golden shine. There are also a few hybrids has these fish tend to get crossed with bream, chub, rudd and bleak.

Tips

  • Try baits such as:

    1. Casters
    2. Hempseed
    3. Bread
    4. Maggots
    5. Red worm

  • Roach prefer slow moving rivers, canals and still waters, they also can be found in faster moving rivers which are reasonably deep.
  • They do not do well in fast shallow swims.
  • Roach do most of their feeding on the bottom but oftern come up and take small insects that have fallen in.
