Tench - Tinca Tinca

The tench is another member of the carp family and can vary in colour from a almost black through green to a pale yellow. The most usual colouring is a deep olive-green back and flanks, with a paler belly. There is also the golden variety which almost looks ornamental, this sometimes has black patches on its back and sides.

Tips

  • Try baits such as:

    1. Sweet Corn
    2. Luncheon Meat
    3. Worms
    4. Red Maggots
    5. Bread

  • Tench thrive best in rich still waters, sluggish rivers and canals.
  • Tench oftern leave a trail of bubbles behind when feeding, this is because when they are rooting around in the mud they release the gas that is traped in it.
  • They feed mainly at dawn and dusk, but sometimes continue through the day or night depending on the water.
  • In winter tench tend not to feed at all and lay inactive in the mud for long periods.
