2017 - MATCH 19 - LAST BASH TROPHY - 12 NOVEMBER

Monday, 13 November 2017 15:06

23 members of LEVAS and Soldiers & Sailors (Sawley) Angling Club fished this joint event at the Lakeview Fishery (near Melton Mowbray) over two lakes, Canal and Lagoon.  Unfortunately, neither fished very well. On Canal one side produced all of the top weights and the other side struggled for bites of any type, while on Lagoon bites of any type were of a premium and only five anglers caught a fish.

Top weight on the day fell to Steve Wilcock with 28-00 from Canal peg 13.  Steve caught several F1 carp on pellet to finish well clear of the chasing pack.

Less than 2-00 split the next four anglers, with Paul Marriott taking second place from Canal peg 3 with an F1 catch taken on worm and maggot bait, closely followed by Paul Skinner (Canal peg 9) who had 15-08 of F1s taken on maggots for third place.

Malc Munn (fishing maggot) on Canal peg 7 was fourth with 14-14, and Les Smedley (Canal peg 5) filled fifth spot with 14-02.

Top weight on Lagoon was Steve Hoult, who fishing peg 15 managed to catch four F1 carp for 8-08, which also gave him sixth place overall in the match.

Paul Marriott's second place has lifted him into top spot in the race to become 2017 Champion with 240 points, just ahead of long-time leader Nigel Brailsford who remains on 238, and Steve Hoult ominously moves into third place on 230 points, ahead of Les Smedley (225) and John Adamson (216).

As Steve Hoult is only counting 14 results so far, he will be able to count his full points from the remaining match, whereas the two leaders, Paul Marriott and Nigel Brailsford will drop points having both had 18 counting results. It all comes down to the final match on 10 December, which will be held on the Kingfisher Lake at Beechwood.
