The final Championship Match of 2017, for the Fletcher Cup, was eventually fished on Sunday 14 January at Beechwood Park on the Kingfisher Lake, after suffering two postponements because of ice and snow in December.
Another good turn-out saw all areas of the lake well covered (most pegs were in use) and once again, for the time of the year and considering the bitterly cold weather, weights were good.
Dave Lewis (peg 13) once again put in an excellent performance to put 66-00 on the scales to take the trophy. Dave fished waggler and maggot tight over towards the far bank for his catch of carp to 7-00.
Second place went to one of the Championship contenders, Les Smedley, who fished pole tight to the far side on peg 26, and using a variety of baits to keep the fish interested Les caught carp to around 8-00 for his 53-02, enough to move him into third place in the 2017 Championships.
Third place was filled by the ever-consistent Paul Skinner from peg 26, who caught carp from "the track" on pole and maggots to put 50-00 on the scales.
The next three places were filled by: Mick Lager (peg 12) with 43-02; Andy Edwards (peg 5) with 33-12; Dave Kent (peg 36) with 29-08.
The final top five for the 2017 LEVAS Championships series is: Nigel Brailsford 244 points; Paul Marriott 240; Les Smedley 233; Steve Hoult 230 and John Adamson 218. The top 10 are shown on the Results page of this website.
